You may want to go with concrete, brickwork, or stonework for the actual patio. Then, you want to decide what materials to decorate the surrounding areas with. You can choose to go with one or more types of materials, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. There are a lot of different types of patio rocks you can choose from and each has their own features and benefits. Here are some examples of the different types of patio rocks you will have to choose from: 

Crushed Stone

Crushed stone is a common patio surface material because it is affordable. So, when there is a large area to be covered, it can be done with the crushed stone for a price that can be easier to fit in your budget. The crushed stone is made from rocks with irregular shapes that are of similar sizes. They can come in a variety of colors, so they can contribute even more to the overall landscape. 

Pea Gravel

Pea gravel is a popular patio rock material for smaller areas and to create very specific designs or shapes. They come in many colors, and that can include colors that are quite bright. One example of how pea gravel is commonly used to landscape around the patio area is to create the appearance of a riverbed. It is also used to create geometrical shapes in other types of patio rocks. Another great thing about it is that it's one of the types of patio rock materials that does the best when it comes to staying in place, making it very low maintenance. Lava rock comes in a few different colors, giving you some options when it comes to the final appearance.
